Abstract
This paper proposes a novel Zero-Current-Switching (ZCS) Pulsewidth Modulation (PWM) switch cell, featuring ZCS of all switches and zero-voltage -switching (ZVS) of all diodes at entire load range. The additional current stress and the conduction loss of the main switch and diodes are minimized. Based on the presented ZCS-PWM switch cell, a novel family of ZCS-PWM converters is derived, which is suitable for the high-power applications employing insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). Among the new family of ZCS-PWM converters, a buck converter has been analyzed in detail as an example. The validity of the proposed ZCS technique has been verified by the experiment results from the 1 kW protype operating at 50 kHz.
