Abstract :
The linear machine can achieve linear motion without rotary-to-linear converters, but the low force density has severely limited its applications in high-performance servo systems. Referring to high torque/force density machines, the transverse flux machine (TFM) is an ideal alternative, but the conventional structure of it is very complicated. In this paper, based on the operating principle analysis of the Wehpsilas prototype, a novel concept of TFM is proposed by derivation of it to achieve the linear motion, which is relatively simple to manufacture. Further, the essence of high force density is investigated, and the characteristic of the electromagnetic force is both theoretically analyzed and numerically computed using three-dimensional finite element method. All the above has laid a good foundation for the further study of the transverse flux permanent magnet linear machine.
