Abstract
This paper presents two types of hybrid excitation machines for electrical propulsion system such as hybrid electric vehicles and trains. In both machines, both permanent magnet and field coil excitation are employed and work harmoniously in order to provide them with superior field strengthening or weakening capability. The basic working principles of two machines are described. The performance predictions based on 3D-FEM and some experimental testing are demonstrated.
