  • Abstract
Two permanent magnet flux-switching motors (PMFSM), viz. the one with 6 poles on stator and 5 poles on rotor, denoted as 6/5-pole motor, and the one with 12 poles on stator and 10 poles on rotor, denoted as 12/10-pole motor, are investigated in this paper. Main parameters, such as flux-linkage, back-EMF, flux density, cogging torque and d-axis inductance are comparatively studied with finite element analysis (FEA), while flux-weakening capability is considered as a key feature. It is shown that both motors have essentially sinusoidal open-circuit flux-linkage and back-EMF waveforms, and strong airgap field to produce high torque. With the same rated current, speed and winding turns, the 6/5-pole motor has a lower cogging torque, better flux-weakening capability and better PMs usage while the 12/10-pole motor only has a slightly higher back-EMF.
