  • Abstract
This paper presents the dynamic modeling, prediction, control and experimental aspects of a switched reluctance starter/generator (SRS/G) system. The proposed model utilizes the Fourier series in expression of current dependent arctangent function to characterize the relationship among phase current, rotor position, flux linkage and torque characteristics. Second, a simulation model along with their implication for performance prediction and comparison with experimental waveforms are presented to verify this modeling method. Third, a small signal model of the SRS/G is derived to analyze the overall control starter/generator system. The strategies of speed PID control with varied parameters and the current chopped control (CCC) are used when SRS/G operates in the state of motoring mode, whereas the voltage PID control with varied parameters and angle position control (APC) are used in the state of generating mode. Finally, the experimental test results during different operations, such as start-up, motoring and generating for a SRS/G system on a DSP drive platform, are described.
