Abstract :
In contrast to the prevalent cloud services that use fixed-rate pricing models, Amazon´s Spot Instance Market uses bidding-driven, dynamic pricing, allowing for remarkable savings in overall computing costs when used judiciously. The authors describe the salient opportunities and challenges of the spot market for data-intensive analytics and devise cost reduction strategies for popular classes of analytics systems operating on it.
