Abstract
In this paper the authors´ experience in translating a traditional lecture plus laboratory based course to an integrated dual-impact course that utilises a collaborative project to drive the learning is described. The focus of this paper is on the lessons learned through the design and implementation process. The project-based learning environment is examined through the lens of the cooperative learning literature and this view was used to align the course with international best-practice in engineering education. Student evaluations of the revised course have been very positive, identifying the integration of theory and practical work as one of the key benefits.
