Abstract :
Since it was first published in 1999, the EEMUA Publication 191 has become globally accepted as the de-facto standard to good practice for alarm management. The presentation will summarise the key principles of EEMUA 191, what constitutes a good alarm system, the metrics against which performance is measured and the techniques for improvement. The methods of interfacing with the operator will be considered. Evidence indicates that alarm system performance varies widely across process plants and industries worldwide and is strongly influenced by the extent of internal management support. Consideration will be given to how the internal sell can be effectively conducted to ensure management buy-in for alarm management projects.
