Abstract :
We propose the use of context-aware smart space technology that is able to monitor physiological signs of a user in real-time. The smart space informs the user when they are stressed and automatically initiate an appropriate stress-relieving response via a selection of scenarios. Using the Nexus-10 we measured on single male subject physiological responses by comparison with baseline music, video, coffee, photo and game participation. Music and a (coffee) break are more beneficial in reducing BP, than watching a comical video. Taking a break also reduces the breaths/min. EMG responses were reduced during music suggestive of adoption of a listening posture, and the low EEG, suggests important aspects of appealing music therapy during relaxation. We recommend a combination of music and regular (coffee) breaks in a stressful situation. We configure a smart space to automatically initiate music and coffee breaks when the stress levels of the user reach a specific threshold.
