Abstract
Minimizing energy consumption is an important challenge in wireless sensor networks. A series of topology control algorithms conserve energy by turning off redundant nodes while preserving the fidelity of network applications. Their communication connectivity, however, is proved under the prerequisite that nodes are uniformly distributed. Due to the cost restriction, mobility and destructions from atrocious environment and malicious entities, the uniformity can hardly be guaranteed in real deployments. We show that nonuniformity may yield bad performance or even complete failures. Among these protocols, PEAS is chosen to be improved for its inherent superiority over others in wireless sensor networks. Simulation studies show that the network lifetime is extended to another nodes´ average lifespan by adopting this fix.
