Abstract :
This paper proposes a distortion estimation-based adaptive error concealment algorithm for SNR enhancement layer in scalable video transmission, which allows the decoder to exploit information from both current base layer reconstruction and pervious enhancement layer reconstruction to recover the missing enhancement layer area. Based on the correctly reconstructed base layer residue and the difference of quantization step between base layer and enhancement layer, the decoder estimates which method leads to smaller distortion and switches between the two information sources in each block. Simulation results show that a better performance can be achieved, and the proposed algorithm outperforms the two original error concealment algorithms using independent information source by 1.2 dB and 2.4 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) respectively.
