Abstract
We consider the problem of adjusting transmission power in wireless sensor networks to create a desired topology. Efficient power control algorithm can greatly reduce the energy consumption as well as to ensure sufficient network connectivity. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed power control algorithm based on PID control which dynamically adjusts transmission power level for each node. Average number of neighbors, energy consumption and start-up time are used as performance metrics to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that network performance can be substantially improved with PID power control over fixed power algorithm. PID power control mostly outperforms LMA and LINT in terms of both start-up time and energy consumption.
