  • Abstract
It is well known that a system with n states, m independent inputs and p independent outputs can generally have min(n, m+p-l) of its poles almost arbitrarily assigned by a static output feedback. When n≫m+p-l, the remaining poles may move to unstable locations as a result of the applied feedback. This paper presents a method that uses simple prescribed dynamics in the feedback to increase considerably the number of assigned poles. The method leads easily to an effective numerical algorithm that has been implemented in the MVPACK design package. The application of the method to the design of a stabilizing compensator for an evaporator is illustrated.
