Abstract :
This paper describes the results of a study of the application of a multivariable self-tuning controller to stabilize the temperature profile throughout a dolomite kiln. Simulations of the two input, two output, indirect self-tuning controller on a transient model of the kiln were performed. A first principle model was used in this study to simulate the behavior of the dolomite kiln. The method used to solve the partial differential equations of the model was a finite difference method defined on a time-space grid. Static and dynamic simulations were performed in perfecting the controller and testing its operation. Example results are presented. The resulting controller will be installed on a full size plant kiln system.
