Abstract :
An optimal control problem for an industrial boiler with environmental and safety constraints is formulated. Both dynamic and steady state optimization of the boiler controls are investigated. The solution approaches used are the minimum principle, the geometric programing method, and the linear programming method. In each case, the nature of the optimum solution is described in detail.
