Abstract :
The incessant growth of power in turbo sets raises the problem of economical exploitation of such units. Large units (200-1200 MW) bring the cost down but require optimal working conditions. This can be achieved by using automatic control systems. It is concluded that use of the control system presented could lead to optimal control of steam turbines under various working conditions, and subsequently to more economical use of the machine. Although the measurements of temperature and thermal stresses are difficult, these variables can be effectively estimated using so-called predictor estimator. In the case of stochastic process the Kalman filter can substitute for the observer presented in this paper.
