  • Abstract
    A new digital control algorithm is based on optimization of control Variables over a multi-step extrapolation of the controlled variable profiles. The algorithm is suitable for industrial processes which often exhibit time delays and nonminimum phase behaviors. The control algorithm is formulated in terms of a state space transformation. On-line adaptation is made possible by coupling the algorithm with a least squares estimator. The adaptive version is required in applications where a reliable process model is not available or where process behavior is highly non-linear.
