Abstract :
A computer-based optimization and control system is described, which is particularly suited for, but not limited to, the optimal operation of the steam generation and distribution systems of typical complexity for industrial powerhouses. On-line efficiency calculations and identification techniques are used as a tool for calculating the incremental costs in the system, and a dynamic programming-like scheme solves the optimal allocation problem. Unlike most other common approaches, the control of the header pressure is an integral part of the optimal allocation of load. Enhancements to the optimization constraints result in operationally desirable features.
