Abstract
There are several well known methods for designing digital controllers. There are also several methods for analyzing the effects of coefficient quantization and amplitude quantization. A simulation procedure is presented for determining the required wordlengths for coefficient storage and controller implementation. The IBM continuous system modeling program and a simple model of the two´s-complement quantizer are used to simulate and evaluate a system´s performance given a particular set of implementation parameters. A simple and straightforward method to estimate the required quantization levels is given.
