Abstract
Using piecewise Hermite polynomial interpolation, splines are fitted to a delay variable projection functional in obtaining a decoupled least squares estimate of pure time delay in the system identification of a class of differential delay equation models. Given the input-output data on a fixed time interval, simplifications are discussed for computing the delay influence functions which save significantly in the underlying computations.
