Abstract :
Some techniques for determining linear discrete time models of machine tool feed drives are described and evaluated here, based on a digital computer simulation of a typical machine tool feed drive. The simulation incorporates features such as feed drive mechanical resonance and SCR amplifier nonlinearity and discontinuous mode of operation. The feed drive models developed include their response to cutting forces. Recommendations are made for improving model accuracy for high performance feed drive applications.
