Abstract :
This paper discusses a characterization of a class of random sets. This characterization is expressed in terms of probability coverage functions which are useful in studying random set representation of different types of uncertainty, including possibility distributions in common sense knowledge representation and randomized confidence set procedures in statistical inference. The problem of computation of expected volumes of random sets, as a measure of desirability, using probability coverage functions, is investigated.
