Abstract
This paper discusses the applicability of the newly available, inexpensive, but highly capable digital computers to the implementation of control systems employing very high-order, detailed mathematical models of the processes being controlled, and the effect of the resulting systems on control system design. These systems operate by supplying, through simulation, data not otherwise available on process operating conditions.
