Abstract
This paper reviews the basic theory of experimental modal analysis and outlines related techniques and applications. Techniques include the selection of an admissible set of transfer functions, curve fitting, and extraction of a time-domain model. Applications include structural modification, substructure assembly, order analysis, modal control, and optimal dynamic testing of mechanical systems.
