Abstract
The problem of real-time control system design for an automated or semi-automated job shop is considered. Prototype software tools for this purpose have been developed and used at BBN. In a small-batch environment with considerable part mix, the efficiency of programming and testing the control system itself can be as important as product throughput to the overall acceptance of automation and to shop efficiency
