Abstract :
This note compares two state observer design approaches in a general way. It shows that the first approach will have exact observer poles but coupling problems between the system and the observer, while the second approach will have no coupling problems but the deviations from the desired observer eigenvalues. The problems are due to computational error. This comparison is made possible by a major clarification for the first design approach.
