Abstract
This paper shows that a non-zero optimal sample period may exist for the LQ (Linear quadratic optimal) sample data servomechanism control system depending on the choice of penalty weighting associated with the internal model states. The design minimizes an integrated quadratic weighting of the continuous process states and a weighted quadratic sum of the discrete controller states.
