Abstract
The practical requirements for the routine application of adaptive controllers in the process industry are stringent and demand a comprehensive approach to adaptive controller design and implementation. Some of the key issues involved in the development of a prudent and robust self-tuning controller are reviewed. Examples with a proto-type controller are used as illustrations.
