Abstract
For proper control of industrial dryers, the control engineer should have a firm grasp of the interrelationship of the key operation parameters. Drying theory will be discussed, indicating the relationships between heat transfer parameters (temperature, pressure, mass flow rates of solids and gases) and physical parameters (diffusion rates, time temperatures, etc.). The types of dryers will be briefly reviewed, describing the operation of each type. Particular emphasis will be placed on the convective types of dryers, especially rotary and spray dryers.
