Abstract
The development and structure of a multivariable adaptive controller, integrated within a general purpose on-line control package, is described. Input-cutput values are retained within the state vector, and feedback and feedforward gains derived using state-space optimal methods. The speed and torque of a petrol engine on a test bed are controlled. Rapid tuning of parameters, and adaption when the operating point of the non-linear process is changed enables test sequence, simulating road conditions, to be followed.
