  • Abstract
Battle effectiveness of our next generation fighter aircraft relies on the efficient deployment of the modern electronically scanned antenna (ESA) radar. The advantages of an ESA are virtually lost without the development of intelligent allocation algorithms. An expert systems approach for `situation driven´ sensor management is presented. This system performs a coarse situation assessment based on kinematics identification, and a priori new target density statistics. the system then directs the ESA accordingly among the activities of search, target update, and target ID. This system employs a fuzzy set theoretic inexact reasoning scheme and a simple `IF-THEN´ expert rule base. The proposed system achieves a high degree of disassociation between the reasoning scheme and the rule base which facilitates rule base augmentation and debugging. An interactive simulation has been developed to demonstrate the prototype system. Simulation results will be presented to verify the validity of the approach.
