Abstract
A new approach to the design of linear controllers for a class of single-input, nonlinear systems is studied. For any convex set of initial conditions, an optimization problem is formulated whose solution is a stabilizing controller. First order necessary conditions are derived. When the nonlinearity is polynomial and the set of initial conditions is sufficiently small, approximate solutions are obtained by Carleman linearization.
