Abstract :
A linearised stability analysis supported by an exact model computer simulation is discussed for a two-stage pressure relief valve. A non-linear damper is incorporated in the valve, and a linearised analysis is used to estimate the typical damping required for a stable design. This is shown to be an accurate stability indicator, verified by computer simulation and experimental testing.
