Abstract
The generality of non-oriented implicit models is exploited to unify and simplify both the formulation and recursive solution of the output feedback design problem for linear systems. Several common design problems, including matrix-fraction design, are re-formulated as special cases of a general design equation, the existence of a solution of which depends on satisfying a subspace inclusion principle. It is shown that the general solution to the output feedback problem contains a parameter matrix which is itself the output feedback matrix of a derived output feedback design problem. The recursion terminates when the derived system is of order zero or equal to the previous order.
