Abstract :
This study examines the activity of ankle plantarflexors during stance with a view towards implementing closed-loop control by Functional Neuromuscular Stimulation (FNS). The particular focus is small amplitude low frequency movements of body position on a fixed base of support, with no intention to initiate gait. The neurophysiological mechanisms by which stance is achieved are still controversial.
