Abstract :
Control and observation spillover effect minimization is one of the major concerns in the control of large space structures (LSS) where a well designed controller is expected to simultaneously provide enough control force and minimize the spillover effect. In this paper, we show that the spillover effect can be minimized by selecting actuator and sensor locations and choosing feedback and observer gain structures throtugh a systematic process. The proposed procedure is named as the target approximation method (TAM) since it imitates an idealized system as a desired target. The advantage of the TAM procedure over the H¿, and classical methods is illustrated through a simple flexible beam example.
