Abstract
The theory of Variable Structure Systems (VSS) is extended to three-segment VSS. This is an effective means to insensitize a system to parameter variations and disturbances. The sliding mode region is extended and the response can start and stay on the sliding mode from the initial to final running time. Example are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Analysis shows the superiority, of three-segment VSS over the conventional one-segment VSS.
