Abstract :
Methods to compensate for transport delay in a ground vehicle driving simulator are developed to optimize the fidelity of the driving simulator. The compensation methods are designed to compensate for individual transport delays in visual and motion subsystems of the simulator, and, at the same time, ensure synchronization between compensated delays. A driver - driving simulator model including a driver, a nonlinear multibody vehicle dynamics, a visual subsystem, and a motion subsystem models is used to analyze the transport delay effects and demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed compensation methods.
