Abstract
This paper presents the application of a model-based control technique - Generic Model Control (GMC) - to a high temperature metallurgical batch reactor. The system under consideration exhibits discontinuous behaviour as the batch reactions take place. This imposes extra demands on the model-based control technique. The formulation of the controller and its behaviour is investigated and performance is assessed. The questions of handling the discontinuous nature of the process is investigated and simulation results are presented.
