Abstract
The paper proposes an efficient robust control scheme for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor. The motor system considered here consists of a pulsewidth modulated (PWM) inverter which is used to regulate the input current. Initially, a full model of the motor system is derived under the condition that the system parameter are not precisely known or slowly varying, an adaptive controller is proposed to fulfill the task of tracjectory tracking. The controller incorporates the extremely roboust variable-structure sliding mode method and, hence, can be easily implemented in a motor system with PWM inverter, which has been widely adopted. Real experiment with Megatorque Motor from Nippon Seiko K.K. using the proposed scheme is performed, and the results are satisfactory. High potential of the present controller is demonstrated due to its easy implementation in a commercial motor system and its promising performance.
