Abstract :
Nonlinear adaptive control and time-optimal control of highly maneuverable, nonlinear, longitudinal aircraft dynamics are studied here. Minimum-time control by means of horizontal stabilators is desired as a performance yardstick and as a basis for sub-time-optimal neural-net-generated feedback control. Another feedback control utilizes a nonlinear time-series model reference for extremely large rapid changes in angle of attack. Simulation results are presented for the F18/HARV (high angle-of-attack research vehicle).
