Abstract
Nonlinear control of a power system following transient stability faults is considered in this paper. The use of thyristor controlled series capacitors to improve the transient stability of the power system results approximately in a bilinear control process. We propose using a low-order bilinear time-series model based adaptive controller, derived from a generalized predictive control criterion, with the series capacitor controller and the easily measured armature current signal, to enhance the region of stability of the power system. Simulation results are included to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed method.
