Abstract
More than 4300 engine generating sets are installed in communications centres, forming part of the British Telecom network, and mobile generating sets in the range 5-500kW play a supporting role in relationship with their permanently installed counterparts in coping with planned maintenance or emergency situations. The paper describes the various designs which have been evolved, and the recently introduced 500kW units which are powered by gas turbines.
