Abstract
In the modern system architecture for communications technique, distributed power is going to gain more ground, since the technological innovation causes a kind of permanent change of the system configuration. Therefore, from the point of view of the system designer, printed board assembly with its own power supply module is the best way to meet this challenge. Some considerations show that higher costs of PSMs (power supply modules) can easily be compensated if the advantages, as for instant flexibility, maintainability and simplified power distribution, are taken into account. In the past, the miniaturisation of PSMs with professional standards was mostly based on hybride technology. Today, improved SMDs (surface mounted devices) combined with power MOS components are gradually competing with hybrids, due to their higher circuit design flexibility and comparable demand on volume. This paper is to describe our universal solution fÿr PSMs, using SMDs and classic devices. Presented single and multiple output DC/DC-modules, suitable for EWSD and EMS requirements, offer a new approach to power supply configuration for communications systems.
