Abstract
Communications requirements that can best be satisfied by communication circuits providing asymmetric capacity, seem to be on the rise. They are intimately connected with reconstitution issues and remote site communication problems. This paper reviews the history of asymmetric communications, develops a channel error estimator for a particular architecture, and discusses present opportunities brought about by a confluence of forces involving PD-53, divestiture, and economics.
