Abstract :
This paper describes the first phase of a multiphase project to develop a line-of-sight microwave channel simulator. The paper describes the simulator concept, the development of a proof-of-concept prototype of the simulator, and the work to be accomplished during later phases of the project. Examples of the spectral output of the simulator showing simulated frequency selective fading effects are provided as well as a description of the unique hardware implementation approach used. The usefulness of the simulator as a test device for the performance evaluation of digital radios is also discussed.
