Abstract
As the U. S. Army acquires a greater number and concentration of automated systems for use in tactical command posts, the use of local area networks (LANs) becomes attractive. However, the severity of the tactical environment and tactical operational scenarios gives rise to LAN requirements not usually encountered in commercial applications. Fortunately, LAN implementations that are based on IEEE 802 and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards show promise for meeting Army requirements.
