Abstract
Trellis codes have definite advantages over other codes on bandlimited channels because they offer a means of increasing the data rate without increasing the bandwidth. However, it is difficult to compute the performance of trellis codes in terms of ber vs Eb /No in order to compare the performance of trellis codes to that of other codes. This paper describes the results of a simulation to determine the performance of a particular K=4, rate 3/4, 16 QAM trellis code using the required Eb /No to achieve a given bit error rate as the measure of performance.
