Abstract
An alternative approach to end-to-end adaptive transmission equalization of survivable channels using the Public Switched Telephone Network is presented. In particular, instead of performing end-to-end channel equalization, equalization is performed by first breaking the channel into appropriate liniks and then equalizing each link independently. Field results indicate that the proposed approach or link-by-link equalization technique provides reliable voice and data performance over a wide spectrum of telephone channel transmission characteristics.
