Abstract
This paper describes a method for determining the actual ampere current drain in individual Direct Current (DC) distribution systems. This drain can be obtained as an absolute value, or as a function of central office usage. Analysis indicates that with the use of accurate drain data, the need for additional copper in the form of DC power cables will be greatly reduced, resulting in large capital savings to the telephone companies.
